About the film:
Omar, a charismatic Afghan teenager, is at the point of having his refugee status decided, when the arrival of a boy from back home threatens to change everything. Forced into a position where the outcome may be the difference between life and death, his only options are to tell the unbelievable truth or to tell a good story. For Omar, and thousands like him, the asylum system is a cruel game of chance.
Based on real-life stories, Leave to Remain is a coming of age drama that depicts a world hidden from view. Featuring a soundtrack by the award winning band Alt-J, this provocative debut feature from BAFTA winner Bruce Goodison, introduces an ensemble cast of emerging talent, young refugees and acclaimed actor, Toby Jones.
Q&A Talk following the film:
A Q&A Session will follow the film, featuring one the film’s producers, James Levison and Ebrahim – (an actor who plays the character of ‘Rafi’ in the film and was himself an unaccompanied refugee himself). The session will therefore offer an unparalleled insight into both the issues the film raises and the process that went into making it. This is a must view for all those interested in asylum and indeed film making.
